Professional Registration

The British Psychological Society (BPS)

The BPS is the representative body for psychology in the United Kingdom.  The society aims to raise standards in the training and practice of psychology and to provide standards to protect members of the public. All members of the society have to adhere to a Code of Conduct and can be subject to disciplinary procedures if they break this code.

The BPS operates a Register of Chartered Psychologists which contains the details of all psychologists who have been judged ‘fit to practice psychology without supervision’.   In order to continue to practice in Clinical Psychology all Chartered Clinical Psychologists must undertake appropriate ongoing training, development and updating of their skills.

The registration with the British Psychological Association is optional, but is recognised as the Psychology stream for registration.

Under the umbrella of the BPS I am also registered with the Division of Clinical Psychology and the Division of Neuropsychology.

Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

In 2009 Clinical Psychologists became regulated by the Health Professions Council (HPC), which is established to protect the public. They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards for training, professional skills, behaviours and health.
